The Dine' have a process of creating their Navajo rugs. Its a traditional process that within the tradition of the people.

There is a traditional process before a rug can be made. Its starts with finding the sheep and hearding it. Then sheering the sheep and making wool to be put into a yarn. Then the wool is woven into a spindle to be a yarn. The wool is sorted into many colors like grey, black, and white. They would have to first wove the wool into a wool string. This is done with a tool called a spindle tool. The wool is woving into a string using the spindle.

To bring unique colors to rug, the Dine' would find certain plants to add to the yarn. They would boil the yarn with the plants which in turns would color the yarn according the plant. Then after the yarn is selected to be woven. It is set aside to be woven for the Navajo rug.

The Navajo rugs are woven onto a loom. This takes imagination and great care to know what or how much yarn is to be woven into the loom. The weaver weaves the design into the loom. There are many designs to a Navajo rug. Each design has many sacred meanings and thus making the Navajo rug very unique. The Navajo rug is also symmetrical in designs and varies in many different colors. This is an indigenous American traditions that has been carried on thru many generations. Appreciate the traditions of people and culture within the Navajo rug.
